Oriental Bureaucracy?

Post  Cherry Black on Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:46 pm

Soooo what are the odds on Jubilee's debut album appearing this year? Things have gone exceedingly quiet, and it's intensely frustrating for people like me!!
There's no way it's still being mixed, surely?
I'm starting to get the impression that this project may have been abandoned, does anyone else agree?

Awww no way. I'm sure the guys are just pretty busy, the buddyhead site is being renewed and all. There was one thing that intrigued me though, a guy over the Queens board said that he talked to Travis (think it was him) and he told him that they were thinking of giving out the differently coloured 7'' from rebel hiss and iwtoc, as the vinyl that will be offered to the online subscribers. It's weird, but then again I find it hard to believe that they would just throw it all away, as they've done a lot of work on it. Anyone know what Aaron's been up to? Heard Mikey is back on Wires on Fire, is it true? Could be as Jubilee's halted right now, and most of the Queens are doing their own things right now.

Check their myspace, news from Aarom:

Crash & Burn
Somehow it’s already the third month of 2009? Time flies when yr not havin’ fun, eh? For the select few out there keeping score at home, we extend our apologies for drifting off the beaten path for awhile. At the close of 2008, I experienced what ya might call… A motorcycle accident.

The prelude to this was another pretty ghastly crash and burn incident at the Buddyhead “Ho Ho Hodeo” Christmas party in Hollywood. Various members of the Jubilee family performed with different outfits that night, and Troy Boy and myself somehow ended up closing the show with an embarrassing train-wreck of a set. No, it wasn’t Troy or anybody else’s fault. The blame rests squarely on my shoulders. My sincere apologies to anyone having to witness/endure such a display. In the state of mind I was in at the time, I wasn’t competent enough to tie my own shoes, let alone perform anything resembling “music”.

I will say this though… A few people involved with the event didn’t help matters much for the better, either… Namely the staff of the club. As is the case with most atypical gigs of this nature and size, it all started out with the best of intentions. The same could be said for Travis and myself, the two who had spent so much time putting the night together. With an upbeat attitude, we put together a bill that included quite a large number of our allies. Keeping with the “posi” approach, as well as the spirit of the season, we avoided the undertaking of dealing with booking agents or money guarantees with the performers. Instead, we would pay the bands ourselves from the take by the club at the door, after expenses had been paid, etc. Our hearts were in the right place, but apparently the club’s was not. Basically, they ripped us off. Now we’re suddenly in the no-win position of “bad guy”, and having to explain to many, many bands that we didn’t end up with as much dough as we were supposed to. Would you believe us? I could bore you all more extensively with a breakdown of the ins and outs of the mouth-raping, but I’ll spare you. On top of that, after letting all the bands play on my own equipment, and Troy his drums, somebody stole a bunch of my stuff at some point in the night. Merry Fuckin’ Christmas! So, a giant: “Blow me ‘til my balls disappear” goes out to whoever decided to walk off with my gear.

Us: “Blah, blah, blah”
You: “Yeah, yeah, yeah”

Our apologies continue extending out to those of you who paid for Jubilee’s “annual subscription” via Topspin in 2008, and have yet to receive your “members only 7-inch”… Not to mention our debut album. Well, as a peace offering, and token of our gratitude for your much appreciated patience and support… We will soon be giving these amazing people an exclusive batch of freshly recorded cover tunes. Due to our set at the Buddyhead Christmas party being cut significantly short, we were unable to perform many of these songs as we’d intended… Not to mention that they would’ve sounded like mud-butt if we had anyway… So we decided it would be fun to record ‘em for our “special friends” instead. These tracks include Jubilee’s take on some of our favorite jams by Nico, The La’s, Stone Roses, and F.Y.P among others. This special, digital-only “e.p.” will not act as a substitute for the 7-inch or album, mind you. Those will also both be headed your way as originally intended. And we PROMISE that you will receive all of this stuff sooner than later.

We are also immediately giving this group of people downloadable versions of the cover tunes that appeared as B-sides on our 7-inches, and have previously been unavailable on any other format. They will also soon be on the receiving end of some live tracks that were recorded on our UK/Ireland tour last summer.

Our album, now tentatively titled “After The Crash”, is also in the final stages of completion. It’s arrival time has also not been bettered after some recent rain damage to our studio, Shabbey Road. The “Gods of Thunder” delivered some pretty severe attacks to the roof, and flooded the place. I’m going to be auctioning off a slew of superfluous musical equipment on Ebay soon to help cover the costs of this fiasco, so please check that out. Oh yeah, and our heads will also be pulled from their asses soon enough to get the Jubilee website back up and running as well. Yadda, yadda, yadda… No more excuses or sob stories. Thanks again for keeping your pants on. We KNOW we’re massive fuckups… But wuddya expect?

-Aaron

One hell of a post eh? Sounds like Aaron's being shat upon from a great height, and my condolences go to him and the rest of the band.
Can't wait to hear the new tunes though, I've played the old stuff to death!

Unless covers get your juices flowing, I'd bet we're still gonna wait a good while for something good.

A cover is just that to me, rarely get excited by one. But I guess it's always cool to have something to check out while the pulp isn't released.

What group? Aren't you confusing him with Dean Fertita? Dean does have a new group with Jack White, The Dead Weathers.
